Both of Half Hearted Hero's major releases were preceded by a demo recording, released on CD-R's at shows and sometimes through the mail, at the request of out-of-area fans. Their four-track 2006 demo would set the standard for a consistently energetic performance and serve as a precursor to their debut EP, Home.

Having secured their post as a thoroughly sensational pop/punk act, Half Hearted Hero released another CD-R demo in the summer of 2008. This three-track recording excited the New Bedford music scene and raised anticipation for Defining. Refining.
